The Indian State of Kerala is in the very southwest of the country cut off from the mainland by mountains, but with a vast coastline on the Arabian Sea. Very green and lush, its musical life centers around the ubiquitous Hindu Temples and differs greatly from the rest of India. This exciting CD demonstrates the range of performance genres including huge percussion orchestras, ancient styles of devotional singing and small ensembles of rare traditional instruments. The album is part of the ongoing series of ethnic field recordings from the International Music Collection of The British Library Sound Archive.
